"A gateway to an alternate reality has just appeared at our window, dear..."

I woke up this morning wondering where the hell I was. I looked up out the window and I saw nothing but this wall of mist pressed up against the window. Not even the outline of a wall or another house. Just this strange white atmosphere. It was like waking up in a house in a cloud. Same thing happened yesterday, but at least I was able to just make out the shapes of the other houses. It was eerie. Not to mention disorientating (is that a real word?).

Because of the mist, I didn't take the sunrise photographs as I had promised. Those will have to wait for weather conditions to improve.

The One Week Challenge... So Far...

1. No TV - well. I caved in and watched the last half hour CSI New York on Saturday as well as The Shawshank Redeption, because I love that movie.

2. Vegan - Being vegan is a little bland at the minute. I did have chicken stir fry on Saturday night with Julie, though. But beyond cous-cous and veg, I have no brainy ideas on how to make it more interesting. I'm sure I'll make something up as I go along

3. I didn't walk anywhere on Saturday for 20 minutes. I did go for a walk up Viking Way yesterday, though. I picked up about half a dozen empty plastic plant pots someone had discarded along the hedge. All in good nick too! I took them home with me.

Books

Just read The Travelling Hornplayer by Barbara Trapido. My book goal is looking much closer now! Go ME!

Other Stuff

I wrote some more of my novel over the weekend. I am really getting into the story that I am telling, which is a very good sign.

If you haven't read my short story, Aftermath on Tastes Like Fiction, today's your last day to do it. It's coming down in order to be subjected to an extensive re-write after which I plan to submit it somewhere. Not sure where yet. Email me if you are interested in reading the re-write.

And finally, my friend Dori, who I have known since High School sent me a photo of the two of us from that time. I have no idea how old we were. I must say, Dori, we have hardly aged at all!

  1. I'm glad you mentioned the novel, because I can't relate to anything else in your post. Veganism?! I'm lucky if I can make it through a meal without bacon. What's the novel about? (I'm kinda sorta writing one myself....)

  2. We had a vegan at our house on Saturday night, and we got it so wrong -- even the tortilla chips contain milk, apparently. Thank goodness we had stashes of pitta bread, so we kept feeding her that...

I must say... hard-core vegans really could try to be more appreciative when they are at other people's houses and other people have made an effort to buy them animal-free products. So we were a little misguided. Bite me. Come on, it's not like I'm serving a steak, is it? It's a flipping tortilla chip!

  3. If I had seen mist like you described, I would have thought that I was in John Carpenter's The Fog and had a heart attack. Thank goodness we don't get much in the way of fog out here on the prairies.

I love how well you're doing with your challenges! And don't worry if you slip with the TV watching or the veganism. The fact that you're able to give it up most of the time is a huge accomplishment! Keep up the great work T. An inspiration.

  4. Maybe you should rather try going vegetarian than vegan. If you are looking to add some variety to your vegan diet, don't forget the proteins. Here, we have a product range called Fry's. They specialise in meat alternates. Look for something similar in the frozen foods section at your market.

Going vegan is tricky, because even honey is a no-no. Also, most muesli's contain milk powder as a binder.

I found going out for a meal the most difficult, with your meal choices being quite restricted. I did, however, find a cheese-less pizza consisting of a tomato base, roasted brinjals, rocket and avo. Yum.

Alternatively, move to Glastonbury, where you can only find vegan food. :P

Re the photo, I can say you both look exactly the same still!

  5. Healing Room: Thanks! We like to think we are still as crazy as we were then too.

Diesel: The novel is about a chick who has to rebuild her life after being dumped by her lover. Doesn't sound exciting when I put it that way, but... What's yours?

Red: Thank goodness this is just an experiment for me! I don't see myself doing this long term. EVER.

Karen: Thank goodness I haven't seen The Fog, then!

Timmee: Used to be vegetarian for a while. I agree that vegetarian is easier than vegan.
