Tales of Ignorance and Tragedy

A five month old baby was mauled by two Rottweilers on Saturday. There is a public outcry and this morning on GMTV, there were discussions about vicious dogs that need to be placed on a banned breed list.

A few things came to mind when this story broke.

1. If you train temperamental dogs to be more temperamental and vicious, they will eventually harm someone.

2. I am expecting there to be a spate of stories about ignorant twats who will target Rottweilers and Rottweiller owners just like there were a bunch of ignorant twats who went around killing stingrays after Steve Irwin's death.

3. The focus has, understandably, been on the dogs and how vicious they are. No one has bothered to consider that this baby's parents left it unsupervised, knowing (one would think) of the temperamental animals lurking nearby. Who leaves a 5 month old baby upstairs in a pub by itself?

  1. I know! I was reading on the BBC website that some neighbours are thinking of "getting rid" (whatever that might mean...) of the family pet because clearly no dog can be trusted, can they?

The problem, as ever, is not with the animals, but with utterly ignorant people, whether it be the ignorant people who fail to train their dog properly; those who cannot control an aggressive breed; those who leave a five-month-old child unsupervised with dogs that (according to everybody in the neighbourhood) were out of control, or those who think that their King Charles spaniel could suddenly turn into a flippin' blood-thirsty T-Rex.

    People make me mad...

  2. That is just horrid. We had a story come out this weekend of a two year old and a three year old who were burned alive in a shed this weekend. The reports all say that the kids were playing in the garage (a kid and his cousin) when flames engiulfed the area. And some eighteen year old boy who was living next door saw the flames and tried to rescue the kids.. only to be knocke dout from inhalation and 3rd degree burns.

Where the heck were the parents??@!!@!

I just can't get over those sorts of stories.

  3. I never left my babies unattended at that age unless they were in a crib! AND I always shut the bedroom door with my youngest because one of our cats is very lovey and I was afraid he would accidentally scratch her or something. It wouldn't have been the cat's fault it would have been mine. There's no way I would leave a baby alone with big dogs, rottwieler or otherwise, because accidents happen.

People killed stingrays?!!?! Aren't they passive? And his death was like some freak accident, the first person killed by one in dozens of years? But then, I haven't kept up with it, so what do I know.
